When does the 2027 Alaska cruise season run?
Expect about late April or May through September. In 2026, Juneau's first ship arrived April 27 and its last left October 6, a 163-day window, according to the Juneau Empire. Lines publish exact 2027 dates sailing by sailing, so check your ship.
For the trade-offs by month (daylight, rain, crowds, prices), see the best time to cruise Alaska guide: June and July are warmest and busiest, while May and September are often cheaper and quieter.
Which 2027 Alaska cruise route should you pick?
Pick a Seattle or Vancouver round trip for a simpler, usually 7-night Inside Passage cruise, or a one-way Gulf of Alaska cruise if you want to add Anchorage or Denali by land.
| Route | Typical length | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Alaska cruise from Seattle (round trip) | 7 nights | Easy flights into SEA; usually a stop in Victoria, B.C. |
| Alaska cruise from Vancouver (round trip or one-way) | 7 nights | Starting in Canada; passport needed |
| One-way Gulf of Alaska (Vancouver to Seward or Whittier) | 7 nights | Adding a land tour to Denali or Anchorage |
| Disney Alaska cruise from Vancouver | 5 to 9 nights | Families |

How do Juneau's passenger caps affect 2027 cruises?
Juneau limits scheduled cruise passengers to 16,000 a day Sunday through Friday and 12,000 on Saturdays, under a voluntary agreement with the cruise lines that took effect in 2026 (KTOO). Peak days had reached about 21,000 before the cap.
For 2027 that means ports should feel less crowded on the busiest days, but popular excursions in Juneau can still sell out. Book the ones you care about early, and read our Alaska cruise ports guide to choose one or two priorities per stop.
Will your 2027 cruise go into Glacier Bay?
Only some sailings do. The National Park Service limits how many cruise ships may enter Glacier Bay, so only ships with a permit go in; check that "Glacier Bay" is on your exact itinerary. The NPS says ships usually spend 9 to 10 hours in the park, with rangers on board. More in our Glacier Bay cruise guide.
Do you need a passport for a 2027 Alaska cruise?
U.S. citizens on a closed-loop cruise from a U.S. port can generally use a photo ID plus a birth certificate, but a passport is recommended, and you need one for any cruise that starts or ends in Vancouver. The State Department explains why. See do you need a passport for an Alaska cruise, and renew early if yours expires in 2027.
How much should you budget for a 2027 Alaska cruise?
Budget well beyond the fare: taxes and port fees, daily gratuities, flights, a pre-cruise hotel, excursions, drinks and Wi-Fi often add up to as much as the cruise itself. We don't print a typical price because fares change daily; plug your own quotes into the cruise budget calculator and check the cruise drink package calculator before you buy a package.
