Quick answer: Most Alaska cruises run from about May to September. Choose between a round-trip Inside Passage cruise (usually from Seattle or Vancouver, about 7 nights) or a one-way Gulf of Alaska cruise between Vancouver and Seward or Whittier, which pairs well with a land tour to Denali.

Alaska is one of the most popular cruise regions, and a few early decisions shape the whole trip.

Choosing a glacier day

Cruise ship visits to Glacier Bay National Park are limited (the NPS says typically two ships a day travel up the West Arm), so only certain itineraries include it. Others visit Hubbard Glacier, Tracy Arm or Endicott Arm instead.

Seattle round-trips and Canada

Foreign-flagged ships sailing round-trip from Seattle typically stop in Canada (often Victoria, B.C.) to comply with U.S. cabotage law, so bring proper documents.
